We have finished all schedules in this short course and everything have run well. Short course “Introduction of Structural Restoration for Geology and Geophysics” was attended by 82 participants with the composition were 14 AAPG members, and 68 non AAPG members those come from Geological Engineering and Geophysics Department, University of Diponegoro. The short course was held in Seminar Room of Geological Engineering Department, University of Diponegoro, Semarang, and was presented by Bayu Adiat Natadafani whom is a Technical Advisor Geology and Geophysics of Halliburton
This short course was divided into two sessions. The first session was about the theory and material of Structural Restoration knowledge and introduction of Lithotech which was the newest structural restoration software, and the second session was course and tutorial session to improve the participants’ understanding about the materials
At first, Mr. Bayu Adiat Natadafani presented about the origin of structural geology. He also explained the fundamental controls on structural geometry. The geometry of structural geology in the subsurface was controled by some factors. The first factors were the intensity, style, and duration of stress. And the second was lithologies properties. After explained about it, the explanation continued by thinking kinemechanically. In this session, we had to know about the originity of exposured lithologies, and we had to know what process happened on the litologies. After that, speakers explained the participants about packages. Packages were determined by the geologic time and similar related structural behaviour of the lithologies. If there were some lithologies had same geologic ages and similar structural behaviour, so those were a packages. For improving packaging understanding, Mr. Bayu gave an simple exercise. The participants were commanded to determine the packages a seismic interpretation data below.
The next explanation was interpretation validation. Interpretation validation covered restoration and balancing. The process of restoration, sometimes synonymously (wrongly) referred to as cross section balancing (restoration is required for balancing, and a restored section is not necessarily balanced), creates an undeformed (or less deformed) version of a deformed structure or structural system. And the reasons of restoration were reducing uncertainity, showing palinspastic reconstruction, and predicting the distribution of reservoir scale. If the restoration was invalid, interpretator can change deformation model, change underformed geologic model, or change restoration methodology. While, balancing was calculation that considerated the volume before and after the restoration. After that, speaker introduced Lithotect which was a new structural resoration software.
After first session and break, the agenda was continued with practice session by software tutorial. Mr. Bayu Adiat showed how to do structural restoration using Lithotect. The next agenda was discussion.
The lecture was closed by giving plaque to Mr. Bayu Adiat Natadafani by Hanif Indra Wicaksana as Chair Person of that activity, and continued with taking photo together as the closing moment.
On the registration desk before entering the room, each participant was given an appraisal form that should be filled. This form was the agenda of academic division. The form objected to all participants of the short courses both to evaluate the speakers’ ability in extend materials and to measure the participants’ understanding of the themes. It consists of several questions that have to be filled and checked by participants to give values to the speaker. Then the chairperson evaluates how good the speaker gives presentation from participants’ opinion.
Those are the result of the evaluation from appraisal form. First, about 84,15% of the questions were filled correctly by the participants, 12,20% were filled false and 3,66% were empty.
Secondly, the committe evaluates the presentation ability of the speaker in extend materials from the participants polling, second page of appraisal form. And the result is 43,90% said excellent; 50,00% said good; and 6,10% said need improoved described by below chart :
From those objective chart, the comittee was conclude that most of the participants understood the material well, and gave such a great reciprocity. Then from the speaker, we conclude that Mr. Bayu Adiat Natadafani was very talented by giving an excellent presentation and explaining with easy words that could be understood well by all of participants. And almost participants adviced that it would be better if there were handbooks. So that committee bent on improoved the activity in the next time.
